The Elizabeth Line

Photos taken on the last day of the lying in state of Queen Elizabeth II. On the spur of the moment, I jumped on a train to photograph the surreal scenes that I’d witnessed on the ubiquitous TV and social media footage. The “queue” was still 14 hours long and crowds had flocked to Westminster and the Royal parks in their thousands. Preparations for the state funeral the following day were well underway and some areas of London, including Trafalgar Square and The Mall, were cordoned off to the public. Tributes to the late queen were plentiful - most poignant were the blacked out windows of fortnum & Mason and a corgi wearing a crown. The crowds were large but peaceful and deferential. London lost its prickliness and took on a serenity that I’d not seen before. It was an honour to witness it first hand.

All photos are from Sunday 18th September and are in chronological order.
