Venice Monochrome:

February 2020

Nothing prepared me for the surreality of Venice at Carnival time. My visit in February 2020 occurred just before the Coronavirus pandemic swept Northern Italy resulting in total lockdown 17 days after I returned. The streets and canals of Venice were quieter than expected at this time of year but the tourist traps of Plaza San Marco and the Rialto bridge were still heaving with tourists and people dressed in carnival costumes.
