The Coronation of King Charles III took place on Saturday 6th May 2023. The weather was atrocious - it rained all day in Central London but nobody cared. The capital was awash with royalists, anti-monarchists and all those in-between. The atmosphere was electric; rain certainly did not stop play or dampen spirits. Cries of “Not my King!” from placard-waving protesters were swiftly followed by retorts of “Yes, he is!” from union flag-waving monarchists.

This collection of photographs documents my Coronation day, spent in central London from dawn to dusk. Luckily, my train journeys into and out of the capital coincided with the large-scale deployment of the participating military services. I was also fortunate to be able to spend most of my time in Trafalgar Square - a few minutes later and I’ve have been shepherded towards Hyde Park by the marshals and I’ve have missed a lot of the action.

Wet, windy, weird and wonderful, it was a day like no other.
